A big heart-felt thank you to everyone who made this possible!

Oakville, Ontario (October 17, 2017) – Mye Japanese Restaurant, a family-owned and operated restaurant in the heart of downtown Oakville, ON, celebrated a rare milestone last week; its 30th anniversary since its opening back in October 1987. Back then, sushi was only beginning to be introduced to Canada, and had a very different reputation than it does today. With new Japanese restaurants opening (and closing) every month, Mye has become a beloved staple for the last 30 years, outlasting and outperforming restaurants in every genre of cuisine.

Owner and Executive Chef, Mo Aoki, donates proceeds raised at their charity dinner to the New Oakville Hospital.  Every year since 2012, Aoki has held their Feast For Good event in order raise funds to help purchase life-saving equipment, beds, and units to build the hospital that will become a life support for the local community.

This year, Mye reached their goal of raising $15,000 for the Oakville Hospital Foundation in a single evening, bringing their total funds raised to over $190k for the Oakville Hospital Foundation.

During the event, Aoki shares his epic life story beginning from his early entrepreneurial journey in Japan at his parents’ restaurant, to starting several small ventures, and eventually meeting his wife, Chisa, before moving to Oakville with his young family and opening his own restaurant. His speech moved everyone in the building. He ended his story with a line from his Restaurateur of the Year acceptance speech at the The Oakville Awards for Business Excellence (OABE) in 2014; “This award is for my beautiful family. This award is for my great team. This award is for Mr. Harry Barrett, and this award is for Oakville - we owe our life to you.”

The evening unfolded in a joyous celebration with an extensive buffet of sushi, sashimi, beef tenderloin, grilled black cod, and much more. The upbeat djs and jazz quartet alternated for live entertainment, setting the stage for a very special performance in which Aoki himself took over the drums in the jazz quartet! Mye’s 30th anniversary dinner is surely night to remember.
